What does "eat better" really mean?
Eating better means making healthy choices. The goal is to have a balanced diet with enough vitamins and minerals, but not too many calories. Some people may need to add more fruits and vegetables or whole grains, while cutting back on sugary snacks. Others may need to eat more protein. The idea is to achieve a good balance, and moderation in how much you eat.
The good news is that there are guidelines, suggestions, and help to make sure that the kids in your life are eating better every day.
How can eating better help my kids do better in school?
Research shows that kids with poor nutrition are more likely to score lower on tests, exhibit disruptive behavior, be hospitalized more frequently, and face obesity and other long-term health issues. With poorer performance at school, these kids have more trouble finding well-paying jobs as adults. They may struggle to put good food on the table for their own families, and the negative cycle of poor nutrition continues.
Eating better gives kids more energy and success in school. That gives them a better shot at success as adults.
